Install on phone
How do I add AnhEm to my iPhone home screen?
- Open app.anhem.app in Safari (not Chrome).
- Tap the Share icon at the bottom of the screen (the square with an arrow pointing up).
- Scroll down and tap Add to Home Screen.
- Tap Add in the top right.
The AnhEm icon now appears on your home screen and opens like a native app. No App Store needed.
How do I add AnhEm to my Android home screen?
- Open app.anhem.app in Chrome.
- Tap the three dots menu in the top right.
- Tap Install app or Add to Home screen.
- Confirm.
On most phones AnhEm will also show a small install banner at the top automatically. Tap it for the same result.
Why isn't AnhEm in the App Store / Play Store?
AnhEm is a Progressive Web App (PWA). It runs in your browser but installs to your home screen just like a regular app. We chose this because:
- Updates are instant. No waiting for store review.
- No 30% store fees, so we can keep prices low.
- Works the same on any phone, tablet, or laptop.
Once installed, it looks and behaves like any other app.
Account & login
How do I create an account?
Go to app.anhem.app and tap Create account. You'll need an email address and a password (8 characters or more). You'll get a verification email, click the link inside it, and you're set.
I didn't get the verification email
- Check your spam or junk folder. Sometimes it lands there.
- Make sure you typed your email correctly (no spaces).
- Try logging in. If your email is unverified, the app will offer to resend it.
- Still nothing after 5 minutes? Contact us and we'll help.
I forgot my password
On the login page, tap Forgot password? under the password field. Enter your email and you'll get a reset link by email. The link is valid for one hour.
How do I change my password?
Use the Forgot password? flow on the login page. Enter your email, click the reset link, set a new password.
How do I delete my account?
Open the app, go to Profile (top right), scroll to the bottom. There's a red Delete account button. You'll be asked to type "DELETE" to confirm. Everything is wiped immediately: all your progress, all profiles, all settings. This cannot be undone.
Profiles
Can my whole family use one account?
Yes. Each account supports up to 2 profiles. Each profile has its own progress, its own pace, and can even learn a different language. Useful for sharing with a partner or child.
Family plans for more profiles and school plans for classrooms are on the way.
How do I add a second profile?
- Open Profile in the top menu.
- Scroll to the Profiles section.
- Tap + Add profile.
- Type a name and choose what they want to learn (Vietnamese or English).
- Tap Create.
How do I switch between profiles?
Once you have 2 profiles, a small profile switcher appears in the top-right of the menu. Tap it, pick the profile you want, done. The app reloads in that profile's context.
Why can't I delete my main profile?
The main profile (the one created when you registered) is linked to the account itself. To remove it, delete the account entirely (Profile → Delete account). Extra profiles can be deleted normally.
Learning & cards
How does spaced repetition work?
Every sentence comes back to you at the moment your brain is about to forget it. Not before, not after. You rate how well you knew it, the algorithm picks the next time.
If you knew it well, it comes back days or weeks later. If you didn't, it comes back in minutes. This is the most efficient way to learn anything memory-based, used by med students, language learners, chess players.
What do the four rating buttons mean?
After you reveal the answer:
- "I didn't know": you couldn't recall it, or guessed.
- "Hard": you knew it, but with effort or hesitation.
- "I knew this": normal recall, no extra effort.
- "Too easy": instant. You use this daily.
Be honest. The algorithm needs accurate input to schedule the next review right.
What's the difference between listen cards and speak cards?
Listen cards (teal background): you hear or read the target language and try to remember the meaning. Passive recognition.
Speak cards (amber background): you see the sentence in your own language and have to produce it in the target language out loud. Active production.
Both come from the same sentence. With "Practice speaking" on (the default), each new sentence becomes two cards in the queue. Speaking practice is what makes the difference between understanding the language and actually being able to speak it.
I missed a day. Am I behind?
No drama. The algorithm catches you up automatically. The next time you open the app, your reviews will be slightly longer to make up for the missed day, but nothing is lost.
We deliberately don't show streaks because they create guilt that pushes people to quit. Show up when you can. The method works either way.
Can I do more cards per day?
Yes. Open Profile → New cards per day. The number is the total cards (read + speak combined). With speaking practice on, each new sentence is 2 cards. So 20 cards = 10 unique sentences with speak on, 20 unique sentences with speak off.
I want to focus on just listening (or just speaking)
In Profile, toggle Practice speaking:
- Off: only listen cards. Faster through the curriculum, less depth.
- On (default): both listen and speak cards. Slower curriculum pace, much better for actually speaking.
Audio
The audio doesn't play
- Make sure your phone isn't on silent mode.
- Tap the Play button directly. Some browsers block auto-play until you've manually played one sound.
- Check your volume.
- If it still won't play, reload the page or close and reopen the app.
Can I change the audio speed?
Yes. Open Profile → Audio speed. Choose Normal or Slow.
Can the audio play automatically?
Yes. Open Profile, turn on Auto-play audio. Each new listen card will play the audio automatically when it appears. Speak cards never auto-play, because that would defeat the speaking practice.
Pricing
Is AnhEm free?
Right now, yes, completely free. The first 100 users to register get lifetime free access. After that, paid plans will launch, but those founding 100 stay free forever. That's a promise.
When do paid plans start?
Once the free founding spots are filled. Likely a monthly and yearly option, with a school tier for classrooms. Existing free users get clear advance notice. The exact pricing isn't set yet.
What about the founding 100 program?
If you register while there are still free spots available, you become a founding user. That means lifetime free access, no subscription, ever, on that account. Forever means forever.
Other
Does AnhEm work offline?
Not yet. AnhEm needs an internet connection to sync your progress and load audio. Offline mode is on the roadmap for later.
Can I use it on multiple devices?
Yes. Your progress lives on our servers, so you can use AnhEm on your phone, tablet, and laptop. Log in with the same account on each.
How do I report a bug or suggest a sentence?
Send us a message. We read every one. Tell us what you saw, what you expected, and which device or browser you're using.
Is my data safe?
